2021 has been without a doubt the year of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) with sales totalling $10.7 billion for Q3 2021. After investing in the art, game and collectibles communities, the Web3 ecosystem is taking over the skateboard world by launching an unforeseen NFT project: SK8BYTES. The project uses Consensys NFT Technology and consists of 10,000 NFTs launched in collaboration with skateboard (SK8) legends such as Christian Hosoi, Tommy Guerrero, Danny Way, and Kareem Campbell. Each NFT is called a “SK8” and all 10,000 will be dropped next month. SK8BYTES has uniquely generated each SK8 from a huge number of possible traits. The result is a mash up of faces, clothing, gear and incredible sk8 locations.
"Along with my legendary friends, we’ve been inspiring each other and the world through photos and videos from magazines, VHS to social media platforms with our expressions of life and creative artistic lifestyle. I never thought one day we would be creating unique digital artwork, one of a kind NFTs to keep inspiring the world to appreciate the skateboarding culture through the stories we have written all our lives yet expressed in a very different (digital) way. I feel blessed and honoured to be part of the SK8BYTES project. Simply incredible," explained Christian Hosoi, American professional skateboarder, SK8BYTES ambassador, also known by the nicknames "Christ" and "Holmes."
The 10,000 NFTs are unique digital collectibles that also provide access to the SK8BYTES Society membership card and several benefits. Aside from the unique artistic style and references to skateboarding culture, the NFTs will give owners eligibility to be part of different events in the physical world. Each series of the NFTs will also be tied to real-life experiences such as free merchandise or signature skateboard decks.
To purchase the NFTs, users can join the whitelist. There will be a pre-sales stage which requires a pre-mint pass to participate. Whitelisting for the pre-mint pass will be through a series of giveaways, lucky draws and competitions held across different social media platforms (Website, Discord, Twitter and Instagram).
“For the first time ever, the most legendary skateboarding icons have joined forces to ollie into the blockchain, launching their styles and skills into the NFT world. What a rad session it will be for this gnarly culture to clash with the hottest new dimension. The wait is finally over!” said the SK8BYTES team.
“Consensys is on a mission to unlock the power of communities and to make Web3 universally easy to use, access, and build on. Today MetaMask is used by more than 21 million monthly active users, and many of them use the platform to collect NFTs. It was an obvious decision for Consensys to accelerate the development of a full-fledged NFT technology for the skateboard community to embrace NFTs,” said Zied Brini, Delivery Director, EMEA Professional Services at Consensys.
This drop happens only one month after Consensys announced the acquisition of the Treum team (the minds behind EulerBeats) and its NFT platform. This project is a concrete example of Consensys’ capacity in delivering fast and secure NFT drops features for content creators and artists globally.
Consensys will host a Twitter space conversation on Wednesday, November 24 at 11am ET to discuss this inspiring project with the stakeholders and share next steps with the community. Link to be provided today.
