NEW YORK, NY, September 3, 2020 — Today, Consensys announced the release of MetaMask Mobile, available for download on iOS and Android. The MetaMask Mobile app makes it easy to interact with blockchain-based applications, without compromising the security or ease of use that makes MetaMask the most trusted Ethereum wallet. Since its launch in 2016, MetaMask’s in-browser extension has been downloaded over 4 million times, and the MetaMask Mobile release has been eagerly anticipated since its oversubscribed beta release capped out at 135,000 users in late 2019.
After downloading the app, MetaMask users can now view and trade digital assets on the go, manage crypto loans and balances, play blockchain-based games, sign messages, send transactions, and store non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that can represent proof of ownership, membership, or unique art and collectibles. MetaMask Mobile equips users with a key vault, secure login, and token wallet. If users already have a MetaMask desktop extension, they can simply generate a QR code, scan it with their mobile device, and their entire transaction history will sync within seconds.
Applications like MetaMask offer everyone a portal to a more transparent and security-focused internet. MetaMask does everything that a standard Ethereum wallet does: manage crypto currencies, ERC-20 tokens, and ERC-721 collectibles. But unlike other wallets, it also allows people to explore the Web3 as easily as any mobile web browser.
MetaMask Mobile is simplifying the process to begin using Web3 applications. In 34 countries, people can now buy ETH directly in MetaMask Mobile by using Apple Pay, debit cards, or other country-specific payment methods.

While the existing MetaMask web extension helped serve millions of users around the world by connecting them to the Web3 applications, the MetaMask Mobile App has the potential to serve millions more, simply by enabling mobile access. Close to 2 billion people, about 60% of the internet-connected population, is estimated to access the web exclusively from a mobile device, where network infrastructure and affordability are driving the growth of mobile internet adoption.
