New York, NY, June 17, 2021 — Today, Consensys announced support for Optimistic Ethereum, the Layer 2 scaling solution developed by Optimism. Optimistic Ethereum uses an “optimistic rollup” solution to scale general smart contracts and enable instant transactions, higher total transactions, and much lower gas costs on Ethereum. The Optimistic Virtual Machine (OVM) is a fully-featured, Ethereum-compatible execution environment built for use in Layer 2 systems. Because smart contracts are written in Solidity and the rollup chain works and looks like the Ethereum mainnet, it makes it easy for developers to move Solidity contracts onto a cheaper and faster solution with just a few lines of code.
Consensys’ developer suite makes developing on decentralized networks as easy as modern cloud platforms. In time for the imminent full launch of Uniswap on Optimism, Infura will offer Optimistic Ethereum support for developers as an API. Get started on Infura today to get free early access.
Truffle builds all the tools necessary to deploy, test, and run applications on Ethereum, and now Optimism. Look out for a boilerplate Truffle Box coming soon, which will simplify the process for deploying an application on Optimistic Ethereum.
Finally, as a part of Infura hosting, MetaMask will provide a lower-friction confirmation to users when adding the Optimistic Ethereum endpoint to their wallet.
Dan Finlay, Lead Developer of MetaMask said, “The MetaMask team is excited to continue facilitating the growth of the decentralized web by supporting Optimistic Ethereum. By providing an increase in transaction throughput, we mean to help Optimism make Ethereum more accessible and affordable to more people and use cases.”
