Texas, July 26th, 2024 – Today, Consensys announced a research agreement with Smart Transaction Corp (STXN), enabling STXN to investigate ways to further enhance the composability and utility of Ethereum transaction semantics. The research, which is separate from but complementary to MetaMask’s Smart Transactions feature launched in May 2024, will be conducted by the STXN team and funded by Consensys.
“Transactions face evolutionary pressure due to unexpectedly changing semantics, which is especially challenging in cross-chain contexts. Today, the transformation of EVM transaction semantics to smart transactions is well underway. It’s not just a deep technical problem but also a very delicate blockchain governance reorganization,” said Vlad Zamfir, Co-Founder of STXN, as emphasized in his 2022 Devcon Bogotá presentation on Smart Transactions.
“These new primitives open up entirely new categories of onchain experiences. They are like time machines wrapped in time capsules: they enable new context-aware conditional logic, from just-in-time liquidity provision and cron jobs to asynchronous execution and lazy onchain evaluation. This creates endless novel use cases. In many ways, smart transactions are an even bigger deal in the historical evolution of blockchain than ‘smart contracts‘,” said Anuj Das Gupta, Co-Founder of STXN.
“The STXN team’s work in virtual validation and decentralized execution environments has been trailblazing. We are excited to see them develop these concepts even further,” said Jason Linehan, Director of the Special Mechanisms Group at Consensys.
Consensys and STXN will be co-hosting a side event during the second half of 2024 to present the initial findings of this research.
